20’s In The Real World
20-somethings always want to have fun. You are at the stage where you still believe you can conquer the world one drink at a time. It’s all fun, parties, and a whole lot of sleepless nights. You do not have to think too much into the future because you know you are young, independent, strong, and a go-getter at all costs. And that’s fine, that’s how it should be. Being in your 20’s is empowering, and it is something that you should cherish while you still can.
However, ‘With great power, comes great responsibility’. It will not always be fun and games. You will have to survive out there amidst the hustle and the competition. It’s not as easy as they make it out to be out there: Economic recession, contractualization, bankruptcy, environmental calamities, and all kinds of accidents may leave you scrounging.
Being in your early 20’s and not really having much of a plan is fine, but you are going to have to start somewhere. As you go on, you are going to have to think of a few of these things to make sure you are prepared. Try to get yourselves on the right track as you advance in age. Here’s how:
- Find A Stable Job. Pursue your passion. Go out there and do what makes you happy. If it works out for you, good on you. But, if it doesn’t, don’t fret. Let’s face it, in this day and age, it’s all about practicality, stability, and a monthly paycheck to make sure you have food on the table. Don’t lose hope yet, after all, who says you won’t succeed later on?
- Build Connections. Do well, and be kind. Make emotional connections that will last a lifetime, but also make connections that will help you succeed in wherever field you’re in. At the end of the day, you’re going to have to go home and eat. No man is an island.
- Budget. This one’s easier said than done. More often than not, you will fail at whatever system you’ll try first. Keep practicing. Get a friend to help, make them your ‘personal financial planner’. Research. See what works out for you. If you want an early retirement, you’re going to have to do some extra work first.
- Ensure Insurance. This is the most important part. Many of you out there don’t realize the gravity of its significance in your lives, and it’s time you should. Again, it’s a tough world out there, your parents will not always be there to support you, and you never know what will come your way. Anything can happen. If you have a car, great, but what happens if someone creates a huge dent that’ll cost you hundreds of dollars that you can’t afford? Or, think about this: You won’t always be the healthy 20-something achiever. You’re growing up and growing old, and you will need a lot of financial support as you go on.
First two on the list may be a bit easier. It’s the ‘money talk’ that brings out the sweat.
